Assembly Hall on the Wilhelmsplatz
The newly constructed auditorium building, designed by university architect Otto Praël (1793 to 1862), was inaugurated in 1837 to mark the centenary of the Georgia Augusta. King William IV of Great Britain and Hanover had donated the building himself, thus fulfilling the University's wish for a representative building for ceremonial occasions.
The auditorium is still used today for prestigious University events and has a capacity of over 400 seats. It can be used for academic celebrations, inaugural lectures, faculty graduation ceremonies, festive conference openings, lectures and honours. The auditorium is also suitable for classical concerts and readings....
The auditorium is primarily available for internal university events. External organisers can rent the auditorium for the above-mentioned event formats after consultation with the event organisation.
The lower level of the auditorium has approx. 400 seats, with a further 152 seats on the gallery level. It is not possible to change the seating arrangement.
A fixed lectern is installed in the auditorium with an integrated microphone system that is only suitable for speech transmission. A Steinway D grand piano is also available for the musical accompaniment of an event. A projector and screen can be set up if required. The auditorium at Wilhelmplatz is equipped with an induction loop for hearing-impaired visitors.
Please note that the auditorium cannot be made available for private events and is not suitable for conferences and congresses. There is neither sufficient infrastructure for these formats, nor are the necessary technical requirements available. However, you are welcome to use the assembly hall for a ceremonial conference opening. For conferences and congresses as well as larger receptions, we are happy to offer you the rooms in the Alte Mensa conference and event centre opposite.
